Abstract: | The proposed study entitled ‘An Analytical Study on the Contribution of Madhu Ram Baro in Bodo Language and Literature’ has analyzed and brought out the outstanding contribution of Madhu Ram Baro to the Bodo language and literature. As a human being, his contribution very is unique compared to other writers and academicians. Madhu Ram Boro was the first person among the Bodos to hold a master’s degree in Linguistics. He was appointed as an assistant professor at Gauhati University in 1975 in the Department of Linguistics. He had immensely contributed to the Bodo language in terms of Language, literature, criticism, novel, drama, poetry, folk literature, children’s literature, stories, and biography. Along with Bodo language, literature, and society, he also contributed to both Assamese and English Literature. He wrote many textbooks, grammar, Syllabus-related books, and Biography. He is one of the topmost contributors among the Bodo writers in the field of Bodo language and Literature. He has published more than 70 books, particularly in Bodo, Assamese, and English languages. Most of his books are recognized as syllabus-related from Lower Primary to Post-Graduate courses. Along with this, he published more than 500 articles in different types of books like magazines, souvenirs, textbooks, and newspapers. His contribution to the Bodo language and literature continued till his last breath. To study systematically on the topic ‘An Analytical Study on the Contribution of Madhu Ram Baro in Bodo Language and Literature’ the methodology has been used analytical method. The data has been taken from both primary and secondary sources. The primary data has been collected by using focus group discussion and interview methods with his wife Mrs. PriyadiniBrahma and two daughters Mrs. Chery Baro and Mrs. Daisy Baro. Besides of these all-written books and articles of Madhu Ram Baro are also used as primary data. The Secondary data has been collected by visiting the library of his house, N.L. Library, Guwahati, N.L. Library, Kokrajhar, Words and Words, Kokrajhar, Onsumoi Library, Kokrajhar, District Library, Kokrajhar. Some magazines, books, and Newspapers were also used as secondary data. On the other hand, the camera, android mobile, and notebook were also used as data gathering tools during the time of data collection. The research topic entitled ‘An Analytical Study on the Contribution of Madhu Ram Baro in Bodo Language and Literature’ has been discussed with five chapters including an Introduction and Conclusion chapter. Chapter- 2 highlights the short-life sketch of Madhu Ram Baro. Chapter- 3 classified and analyzed the contribution of Madhu Ram Baro in the Bodo Language. Chapter- 4 classified and analyzed the contribution of Madhu Ram Baro in Bodo Literature. The chapter- 3 and chapter- 4, these two chapters are the core chapters of this study. In CHAPTER- 1, INTRODUCTION: introduced Madhu Ram Baro and his excellency contribution in Bodo language and literature. This chapter includes the problem statement, significance of the study, aims and objectives of the study, methodology, and source of the study, hypothesis, and review of the literature. Madhu Ram Boro was born on 1 st November 1938 at Hajo. He was born and grew up in a Bodo family. The Bodos belong to the Tibeto-Burman Language Family. They are the major tribe of the northern bank of the Brahmaputra River of Assam, India. Madhu Ram Baro worked as a teacher in various schools, and he was also a faculty of Gauhati University, Assam in the Department of Linguistics. Mostly known as a linguist, he was the only one from the Bodos to be awarded the BHASA SAMMAN award in the year 2002. He was also awarded with Dr. Ambedkar Literary Award by the Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Akademi Assam State Branch in the same year.CHAPTER- 2 deals with the LIFE AND WORKS OF MADHU RAM BARO: the birth to death Life and works of Madhu Ram Baro has been brought out in this chapter. Madhu Ram Baro was born on 1 st November 1938 in Kamrup District in the city of Assam and Passed away on 24 March 2014. He survived 76 years in his journey of life. Generally, Madhu Ram Baro is known as a teacher, a linguist, and a famous writer. He was not only a teacher, linguist, and famous writer but also a journalist, editor, academician, and the first linguist (M.A.) from Northeast India. He was a Bhasa Samman Awardee, Literary Pension Receiver from the Assam Government, Dr. Ambedkar Literary Awardee, Artist (Vocal Music), Guide, Expert, and a good social worker. In this chapter, the study summarizes the life and works of Madhu Ram Baro from his birth to death. This chapter brings out Madhu Ram Baro’s birth, education, as a teacher, marital status, as a journalist and editor, social and academic activities, seminars attended, felicitation and awards, and death. CHAPTER- 3 deals with the CONTRIBUTION OF MADHU RAM BARO IN BODO LANGUAGE. This chapter has classified and analyzed the contributions of Madhu Ram Baro in the Bodo Language. Madhu Ram Baro was a silent and responsible worker with sincerity and a spirit of social service. He had a critical attitude with a nationalistic and academic outlook. He offered his sincere service towards the growth of language, Literature, and the Cultural developments of the Bodos. Madhu Ram Baro was a prolific writer, he wrote in three languages which are: Bodo, Assamese, and English. He published many books on the Bodo language, Literature, and Culture for the needs of Schools, Colleges, and Universities students. Madhu Ram Baro has written Textbooks, Reference books, Grammar, and Rapid reader along with these, he wrote in all genres like Essays, Grammar, Poetry, Drama, Short stories, novels, and Biography, particularly in the Bodo language. Most of his Bodo Books are recognized as textbooks for various levels of classes starting from primary to the Postgraduate level. Madhu Ram Baro wrote many books on the part of Language. He has written on Linguistics and grammar and works the comparative study also. He wrote in three different languages: Bodo, Assamese, and English languages. Thecontribution of Madhu Ram Baro in the Bodo Language has been classified into two- grammar and linguistics. He writes three Bodo Grammar books and nine linguistics books. CHAPTER- 4 entitled CONTRIBUTION OF MADHU RAM BARO IN BODO LITERATURE has been classified and analyzed the contribution of Madhu Ram Baro in Bodo literature. Madhu Ram Baro enters in Bodo literature in the modern age of Bodo literature by writing Jariminni Nwjwrao Boro Thunlai on 1988. After this, he contributed to Bodo, Assamese, and English languages continuously. According to the Bio-data of Madhu Ram Baro, he had written the highest number of linguistics and literary contributions among the Bodo writers. He wrote seventy 70 books, particularly in Bodo, and published more than five hundred 500 articles and criticisms in Bodo, Assamese, and English Language. He covered all the genres of literature like Novels, Drama, Short stories, Poetry, Folktales, Child literature, Biography, Essay, and Criticism. The contribution of Madhu Ram Baro in Bodo literature has been classified mainly into two, fictional literature and non-fictional literature. Fictional literature is again classified into six genres of literature. He writes 1 Novels, 4 Short Story books, 2 Drama books, 2 Poetry books, and 5 Folktale books. The non-fictional literature is again classified into four genres of literature. Madhu Ram Baro has written some nonfiction literature, 7 life sketch books, 12 literary criticism books, and 2 essay books. CHAPTER- 5, CONCLUSION: this chapter, summarizes all the chapters of the study and brings out the further scope of studies. Further Scope of Studies This research work titled ‘An Analytical Study on the Contribution of Madhu Ram Baro in Bodo Language and Literature’ has some further scope of the studies. These are:➢ Comparative Study of Madhu Ram Baro’s Contribution to Grammar with Someone Renowned Writer’s Grammar. ➢ Comparative Study of Madhu Ram Baro’s Contribution to Linguistics with Someone Renowned Writer’s Linguistics. ➢ Comparative Study of Madhu Ram Baro’s Contribution to Fictional Literature with Someone Renowned Writer’s Fictional Literature. ➢ Comparative Study of Madhu Ram Baro’s Contribution to Non-Fictional Literature with Someone Renowned Writer’s Non-Fictional Literature. The interested researcher may also select the topic mentioned above. There are many scopes to study deeply and widely relating to the above-said topics. |
